| About The Artist
Susan has been a professional artist and instructor for over 30 years. Her emphasis is on rich color and strong design. She paints in a variety of media’s though her passion lies with watercolor. She is known for her portrayal of crystal and glass and for her ability to capture light in her paintings.
She is a signature member of the National Watercolor Society, Transparent Watercolor Society of America, Virginia Watercolor Society, Baltimore Watercolor Society, Southern Watercolor Society, Watercolor West, Missouri Watercolor Society, Texas Watercolor Society and Catherine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club in New York City. Susan is a member of the Bon Air Artist Association and the American Watercolor Society. She is also listed in Strathmore’s Who’s Who Worldwide.

Susan has been the recipient of many awards locally as well as nationally. Here is but a selection of her recent awards: 2012 Award of Excellence , Virginia Watercolor Society Juried Exhibition; 2011 The Michael Frary Memorial Award for Transparent Watercolor in the Texas National Exhibition, the Canson Fine Art Award in the 2011 Watercolor Society of Alabama National Exhibition and the 2011 Watercolor Award in the 53rd Annual Roanoke Sidewalk Art Show. In 2010 Susan won the Bronze Medal in the Mid- Atlantic Watercolor Exhibition in Bethesda, Md; 2010 The Jack Richeson Award in the Texas National Exhibition, The Watercolor Artist Magazine Award in the 88th National Watercolor Society Exhibition, the Henry Fukura Award in the Watercolor West Exhibition and the San Diego Fine Art Society Cash Award in the San Diego International Watercolor Society. 2008 also found her winning the Edgar Whitney Memorial Award for watercolor in the Catherine Lorillard Wolfe International Women in the Arts Exhibition in New York City. She was a finalist in the still life category in the 23rd Annual Artist magazine Still Life Competition.
She has two paintings published in North Light’s Splash 10 Series ‘Passionate Brushstrokes”. This is the tenth edition of North Light Book’s hardbound showcase of the best in contemporary watercolors, released in June 2008. Susan has one painting published in North Light’s Splash 11: New Directions released in July 2010. She will have one painting published in Splash 14: Color and Light to be released July 2013 and several paintings published in Artistic Touch 5 that will be out summer of 2012.
Susan’s work can be found in many private and corporate collections in the United States and abroad. Federal Reserve Bank, Franklin Federal Savings Bank, I.B.M., A.H. Robbins, BB&T Bank, H. H. Hunt Land Developers and the Richmond Times Dispatch Corporate Headquarters are but a few of her corporate clients.
Susan continues to instruct 4 painting classes a week at Crossroads Art Center as well as workshops both locally and nationally.
